Magdalena CantuHOBBS, txMagdalena Cantu, 91, of Hobbs, passed away March 20, 2017 in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, March 24, 2017, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Rotan. Burial will follow in Hobbs Cemetery. Visitation and rosary services will be held from 6:00PM until 8:00PM, Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Magdalena Mijares Cantu was born on July 22, 1925 to Francisco and Soledad Mijares. Magdalena married Rogelio Cantu on March 19, 1949, in Rotan. They settled in the Hobbs community where she resided her entire life. She was a wonderful cook and loved feeding her family and friends; no one left her house hungry. Magdalena was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Rotan. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, and she will be dearly missed by all that knew her and loved her. Magdalena was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rogelio, her brothers Lupe and Calixtro Mijares, and her grandson Javier Martinez. She is survived by her children Lydia Martinez and husband Roy, Eloisa Martinez and husband Oliverio, Rogelio Cantu and wife Rita, Raymond Cantu and fiance; Robin Williams, and Teresa Cantu; grandchildren Roy Martinez Jr, David Martinez, Oliver Martinez II and wife Marie, Cassidy Davis and husband Mathew, Adrianna Cantu and Welsey Yates and wife Teresah; great-grandchild Oliver Martinez III, and one brother, Elmer Mijares.
