M. Rita Zwick Hopkins, 86, of 2432 Oak, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at her home. She was born on July 31, 1930, in the Bronx, N.Y., a daughter of Leo and Emilie Peter Zwick. The family moved to Quincy when Rita was age 6. She attended St. Francis Grade School and Notre Dame High School and was also a graduate of Quincy University and the St. John School of Medical Technology in Springfield, Ill. She married Richard Hopkins on Oct. 29, 1955, in St. Francis Catholic Church. Rita worked as a medical technologist at Blessing Hospital and then later at St. Mary Hospital for many years. Rita was a member of Church of St. Peter. Along with her husband, Rita was very active in the church. She was also very involved at Quincy Museum. Rita was an accomplished pianist, violinist and artist. In addition to her husband, she is also survived by, two children, Tia Hopkins of Houston, Texas, and Lisa Lewis and her husband, Tim, of Columbia, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Emilie Lewis and Michael Lewis along with his fiancé, Corey Potter. Numerous sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Rita was preceded in death by her parents. SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at Church of St. Peter. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
