Luis J. "Bud" VolpeBattle CreekLuis J. "Bud" Volpe, age 93, of Battle Creek MI passed away on October 11, 2017. He was born on May 2, 1924 in Benzie County, MI the son of James and Elizabeth (Fewins) Volpe. Luis, commonly known as "Bud", was the second oldest of twelve children. He was a Corporal in the
United States Marine Corps. Bud graduated from Western Michigan University and held two Master Degrees in Education from Michigan State University. He was an elementary and driver education teacher in Pennfield School District and later taught in Lakeview School District, retiring in 1986 after more than thirty years of educating students. Bud enjoyed spending time with his fellow teachers and with his large extended family and friends. His hobbies included horses, snowmobiling and travel.Bud was preceded in death by his previous wife, Geraldine Volpe and six of his brothers and sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Carol "Tonie" Culp and her husband Fred Culp; his grandchildren, Brent Culp and Theresa (Culp) Kreske; and his great-grandchildren, Henry and Vivian Culp and Elise and David Kreske. Open to family and friends, a military service will be held promptly at noon on Monday, October 16th at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Rd. Augusta, MI. Guests are asked to enter the vehicle procession area at the front of Fort Custer National Cemetery no earlier than 11:30am.
