Luis Garcia Obituary

Apr 01, 1933 - Apr 12, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
On April 12, 2017, Luis Garcia, 84, was called home. At the gates of heaven, he was met with open arms and a celebration was in place for him. There were balloons in every color, along with cake, ice cream, laughter, music and happiness. His mother and his father took his hand and led him to the place that was set for him. His sisters, Julia and Teresa, and brothers, Ramon and Francisco (Kiko), awaited him to celebrate in the life ever after. The angels rejoiced, birds sang and as the harps of heaven played softly, Luis looked back and said, "Do not weep for me, I am where I need to be and I am happy! My mission on earth is complete. For this is not good-bye, we will see each other again my loved ones." He waved his special wave and smiled, as he always did and then the heavens embraced him. Luis, or known to some as "El Chuco,", was born on April 1, 1933 in Las Cruces to Antonia Almanzar and Jose Garcia. He was a simple man, lived a simple life, and was a friend to many. He was a happy-go- lucky, free spirited kind of guy. In his younger days, after a long work week, he would take his hard-earned money and give it to his mother as his contribution to the household budget. He would keep just enough change to buy his favorite drink, an RC Cola, and his Jack Horner pie. He savored his treats, much like he savored life. He smiled, laughed and giggled. He liked to play tricks on people. He loved everyone. He had a thing for aluminum cans, collecting and selling; riding his bicycle all over the Mesquite Street district. When his health no longer allowed him to ride his bike, he would walk and walk and walk, a Forrest Gump kinda guy! He was loved by so many and so now a void fills us but we are fortunate to have such wonderful memories of him. We will cherish them forever. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his twin sister Carmen Miramontes, Lucy Vasquez, Mary Ann Garcia, Helen Cordova, Alice (whom he affectionately called "la baby") Elizalde (Rudy); and his dearly beloved baby brother Chema Garcia (whom Luis lovingly called "el baby") (Pinky), He is also survived by a very special nephew, Johnny Garcia whom he helped raised and was like a brother to him, as well as other numerous nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Teresa and Julia, and brothers, Ramon and Francisco, "Kiko".Services are scheduled for Friday, April 21, 2017 at Our Lady of Health 1155 N. Mesquite. Viewing will begin at 9:30, Rosary to be recited at 10:30 and funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00. He will be buried at St Joseph's (St Genevieve) cemetery.Serving as casket bearers are Joe Garcia, Lee Carrasco, Erik Carrasco, David Reta, Jacob Reta and Chris Miramontes. Honorary pall bearer is Johnny Garcia. To sign the online guest book visit www.LaPaz-Grahams.com.
