Loretta Yvonne Evans, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on October 1, 2024 at the age of 64 after a long, valiant battle with cancer.
Born on September 2, 1960, Loretta grew up in Harlem, New York with her mother and three siblings. Even in her youth, Loretta played the role of supportive sister and dedicated caregiver to her brother and sisters. Loretta developed a passion for reading as a young child, making frequent independent trips to the public library when she could find the time. Loretta had a great mind for mathematics, which allowed her to begin a professional career in banking at 19 years old. She continued to work in banking for the majority of her adult life and was able to gracefully balance her career while acting as an encouraging and hands-on mother to her only son.
Loretta lived to enjoy and support her closest loved ones. Her pride in her son and grandchildren was palpable, and they brought her so much joy even on tough days.
Loretta had an extraordinary ability to connect with people. Her calm disposition paired with her big, beautiful smile was what drew people to her. Loretta made and kept many close friends all over New York. From former coworkers to neighbors and extended family, Loretta's phone was always ringing with someone who wanted to talk to her.
Loretta is survived by her son, Evan Evans (Meredith); her two grandchildren, Olivia and Theo; and her two sisters, Yolanda Evans and Adrienne Moore. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Evans and her brother, Eric Evans.
A celebration of life service will be held in Loretta’s honor on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 4:00 pm. at Granby's Funeral Service, 4021 White Plains Road, Bronx, NY 10466. Visitation will begin at 3:00 pm. Friends and family are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Coalition for the Homeless in Loretta's name, as she was passionate about supporting and assisting those in New York City who are in need of shelter, food and other critical services.
Loretta will be remembered for her bright and infectious smile, her strength and resilience, and her love of and dedication to her family.
