LILA E. BRUCE, 83 FREEPORT - Lila E. Bruce, 83, of Freeport, died Sunday, September 1, 2013, at the Stephenson Nursing Center. She was born on February 5, 1930, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Douglas and Olive (Boettger) Ottedahl. She married Leslie Bruce on June 19, 1971, in Freeport, IL. Lila was the office manager for the Water & Sewer Department for twenty years, before retiring in 1992. She enjoyed volunteering at Freeport Memorial Hospital and at the Prince of Peace Church. She was one of the original charter members at Prince of Peace Church. Lila enjoyed playing bridge and taking walks in the park daily with her husband. They also wintered in Florida every year. Surviving Lila in death are her husband, Leslie Bruce; three sons, James (Roxi) Weik and Larry Weik, both of Freeport, IL, and Rob (Mary) Weik of Rockford, IL; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Pete Norman) Smith, Tyler Weik and Matt Weik, all of Freeport, IL, and Amanda Weik of Durant, IA; three great-grandchildren, Colby, Sedona, and Chloe Smith, all Freeport, IL; and one brother, Douglas (Anita) Ottedahl of Willmington, VT. Lila was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Carol Frontier of Chicago, IL; and grandson-in-law, Colby Smith. Lila's family wishes to say thank you to the Stephenson Nursing Center and Freeport Memorial for the wonderful care she received. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Prince of Peace Church, with Pastor Mark Luepke officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Burial of Cremains will take place at Oakland Cemetery.
