Lewis Max Rogers, 89, passed away on Aug. 24, 2008, in St. George, Utah. He was born on Sept. 21, 1918, to Clifford and Blanche Rogers. He married Betty Lu Green in Logan, Utah, on Nov. 24, 1942. Max grew up in Logan, where he was valedictorian of his high school class. He graduated from Utah State University with his Bachelor's of Science degree. He joined the military and was stationed in Hawaii during World War II. He then went on to complete a Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Southern California. He specialized in the areas of history of religion, comparative religions and biblical studies. He taught at BYU for four years, then at the University of Utah for 35 years. Upon his retirement, he was honored as Professor Emeritus. Besides learning, Max loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Jeanne, Ron, Jon and Lorie; and five grandchildren. Two other children, Maxine and David, have gone on before him. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at Mountain View Memorial Chapel, 3115 E. 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, with visitation 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be in the Mountain View Memorial Cemetery.
