Lester W. Cain, 77, passed away at home on Oct. 20, 2016, from complications from cancer surgery. Lester was born on Nov. 23, 1938, in San Bernardino, Calif., and grew up on a small farm in Highland, Calif.He joined the California Army National Guard as a private and over the next 23 years of service in the Guard, Active Duty and Army Reserve, retired with the Rank of Captain with five years as a Company Commander.He worked as an equipment operator for the State of California, Mental Health Department and was a member of the Hospital Volunteer Fire Department, and for a short time for the Palm Spring, California Police Department, then the State of California Department of Transportation in Highway Maintenance.He moved his family to Alaska and bought a small Mobile Home Park and operated and managed it for over 30 years, also working for the State of Alaska, Department of Transportation, Highway Maintenance as an equipment operator, retiring as a CrewForeman.He enjoyed flying his Cessna 172, hunting, fishing both fresh and salt water and power boating.He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Beulah Cain; sister, Dorothy; sister, Mary; first wife, Linda, of 35 years; and second wife, Francis, of 13 years.He is survived by sister, Shirlyene; wife, Delores; son, Lyle; daughter, Lisa; grandson, Mathew; granddaughter, Sarah; and grandson, Brandon.There will be no services. His remains will be interred next to his first wife, Linda, in California.It is requested that all friends, acquaintances and any one reading this be screened for cancer and, if able, to make a donation to a cancer fund of you choice.
