GANSCHOWLeonore (Le) Ganschow of Minocqua WI, passed away under the care of hospice at her daughter's home in Oak Park, IL, on May 19, 2017. She was born on August 8, 1937, in Perth Amboy, NJ, the daughter of Theodore and Irma Nickel. Prior to her retirement in 1998, she spent 18 years on the faculty of Miami University of Ohio in the Department of Educational Psychology. Upon moving to Minocqua in 1999, she founded and directed the Northwoods Literacy Task Force which trained parents and teachers of students with reading and learning difficulties. Music was an ever-present part of her being, manifesting itself in endless musical endeavors including the St. Matthias' Episcopal Church choir which she directed for 10 years. Recently she devoted considerable time and energy to enhancing her skills as a pianist, often inviting friends to mini recitals as she developed her repertoire. She bequeathed her gift of music to her children and grandchildren, all of whom surrounded her as she passed. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Roger Ganschow of Minocqua, two brothers: Dieter Nickel of Merrill, WI and Kurt Nickel of Jacksonville, FL, two children: Pamela Wefel of Oak Park, IL, and Tod Ganschow of Bertrange, Luxembourg, and five grandchildren: Ashley, Megan, and Ben Wefel, and Juliette and Lea Ganschow. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Matthias' Episcopal Church in Minocqua at 11AM on Thursday, June 8, preceded by a brief visitation period starting at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be given to the St. Matthias' Music Fund or to the Southern Poverty Law Center (
