Lee N. Smith, 88, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at Christus St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe.He was born on Feb. 3, 1926, in Tucumcari to the late John William Smith and Nannie Elizabeth Nyman.He served in the United States Navy from May 1944 to July 1946. He was a road superintendent at the New Mexico Highway Department for 35 years. He was a member of the Masons, Eastern Star and Scottish Rite.He was a member of The First United Methodist Church.He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nannie Smith, and sister, Dorothy Robertson.He is survived by his wife, Laura Smith of Las Vegas; son, David Smith of Las Vegas; daughters, Kevin Johnson of Las Vegas, Faye Ellen Halvaei and husband, Al, of Edgewood; grandchildren, Eric Layden of Rio Rancho, Richard Johnson and wife, Tessa, of Las Vegas, Nicholas Halvaei, Jason Halvaei and Amanda Halvaei, all of Edgewood; great-grandchildren, Lauren Johnson, Mia Johnson, Aric Johnson, Olivia Ludi and Rachel Layden; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Las Vegas with Pastor Rose Mary Pierson officiating.
