Lawrence McClureSeptember 12, 1919 - October 18, 2017Lawrence McClure died peacefully in his home at Gibson Creek on Oct 18, 2017 at the age of 98.Lawrence was born on Sept 12, 1919 in Notus, Idaho to Edward and Maude McClure. He graduated High School in 1938 in Salem, OR. After graduation he worked as a sawmill planer in Kings Valley area. He married Helen Hunt on Sept 24, 1939. During 1939-1943 they lived in the Alsea and Waldport areas where he worked falling timber. In 1940 they welcomed their daughter Donna and in 1942 they welcomed their son Lawrence (Butch). Grandpa was drafted into the army in 1945 and served in Germany during the Occupation of Germany (end of
WW2) for 4 months. He was discharged as a Sargent in July 1946. In 1947 he managed the Brush College Store (now known as Plaid Pantry) for 9 years. In 1954 he bought an acre on Rodgers Lane NW where he built a home and lived there for over 60 years. He retired in 1983. In 1942 Grandpa joined the Odd Fellows lodge which he was very active in. He recently was honored with his 75th year member diamond pendant in which he was very proud of.Grandpa is survived by 5 Grandghildren: Debra and Jack Nissen of Placerville, CA, Mike and Georgi Rivett of Salem OR., Mark and Cathy Rivett of Salem, OR, Ken and Lorna McClure of Redding, CA. and Karen and Tim Reilly of Carmichael CA, 11 Great-Grandchildren and 20 Great-Great-Grandchildren with another one due in December. He loved his family very much he was a loving, kind and funny Grandpa and we all will miss him very much.Grandpa was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen, Son Butch, daughter Donna and his siblings George and Edna.A funeral service will be a 11am on November 11th at Virgil T Golden Funeral Services located at 605 Commercial St SE Salem, OR. with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Lawrence's life.
