Lawrence "Larry" Hill was born on April 26, 1936, to Greschum and Ethel Hill. From the time he was a young boy, Larry lived life on his terms with an independence streak a mile long. At the age of 18, he left home and joined the United States Army to serve his country. He not only was a soldier but also a diver for West Point Military Academy. After serving his country, he came home and continued his service as a detective for the Fresno County Sheriff's Department for the next 30 years. Larry met and married Marlene Stefano 1963, and later had a daughter Michelle. After his retirement, Larry was able to enjoy his time golfing and having coffee with his buddies. In 2006, his greatest joy came in the form of his granddaughter Mia. This little girl and her poppa were kindred spirits from the moment they laid eyes on each other. Larry passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016, after a lengthy battle with the effects of West Nile Virus. He will be sorely missed daily but his spirit will live on through those lives he touched. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marlene Hill; his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Greg Kusch; brother, Bill Hill, and family; and most importantly the love of his life, his granddaughter, Mia Kusch. A Funeral Service will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns and Blair Funeral Home on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Children's Hospital of Central California. Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home, 1525 East Saginaw Way, Fresno, California (559)227-4048
