LARRY W. DORTY, 78 SHANNON - Larry W. Dorty, 78, of Shannon, died Saturday, July 11, 2015, at the University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. Larry was born on September 22, 1936, in Freeport, the son of Walter and Fern (Mattes) Dorty. Larry was a 1955 graduate of Pearl City High School. He married Clarene Poppen on July 22, 1967, in German Valley. Larry farmed the family farm for all of his life. He served in the Illinois National Guard. Larry was a member of Park Hills Evangelical Free Church. He enjoyed airplanes, trains, bike rides, going to the Union Dairy and Lock and Dam #13. Most of all, Larry appreciated spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Clarene Dorty of Shannon; two sons, Keith Dorty of Forreston and Kirk (Melony) Dorty of Shannon; two daughters, Renee (Steve) Kurtz of Farmington, Missouri and Renita Dorty of Freeport; sister, Marlene Dorty of Freeport; seven grandchildren, Kolten Dorty, McKenna Dorty, Moira Kurtz, Matthew Kurtz, Madalyn Lukowski, Kassidy Dorty, and Khloe Dorty. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Paul. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at Park Hills Free Evangelical Church. Pastor Mark Balmer will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in Larry's memory.
