Kimberly Ann Mathewson, age 59, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday morning from a long battle with ovarian cancer. Her husband of 38 years, Rick, was by her side. She was born on July 13, 1958 in Evanston, IL to Joseph and Patricia Hoffmann. She was raised in Wadsworth, IL and attended Carmel High School ('76) in Mundelein, IL. She was married to Rick Mathewson on October 12, 1979 at St. Patrick's Church in Wadsworth. In 2014, she retired from Abbott Laboratories after a successful 37-year career. Her more important role in life, was that of mother to her two sons and grandmother to her 5 grandchildren. Kim touched many lives over the years. Her love of life and family was felt by all those around her. Her upbeat and positive outlook on life was infectious even through her difficult battle with cancer. Her strength and legacy are left behind in her children and grandchildren and all those who loved her dearly. She is preceded in death by her mother, Patricia (Nana) Hoffmann. She is survived by her Father, Joseph Hoffmann, her brothers, Tod (Leslie) Hoffmann, and Jay Hoffmann, her sister, Gail (Mark) Wegener, her loving Husband Rick Mathewson, her children Tim (Lisa) and Kevin (Nikki) Mathewson, her cherished grandchildren Luke, Grace, Noah, Samuel, and Sophia, and many other family members and friends. Family, friends and others whose lives Kim influenced and touched are invited to Ringa Funeral Home at 122 S. Milwaukee Ave. in Lake Villa, IL from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, November 11, 2017. There will be a 2pm mass at St. Patrick Church at 15000 W. Wadsworth Rd., Wadsworth, IL.
