Katherine E. MatzenApril 27, 1918 - January 18, 2015Katherine Matzen, 96, of Nampa, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015 at a local care center. Katherine Elizabeth (Connally) Matzen, was born on April 27, 1918 to Fred Jewel and Susie Mary Connally in Silverton, Texas. She moved with her parents to Tobe, Colorado in the spring of 1918. She attended elementary school there and went to high school in Kim, Colorado, graduating in May of 1936. The summer of 1937, she moved with her parents to Canon City, Colorado. They lived there for one year and then moved to La Junta, Colorado in the spring of 1938.Katherine joined the Church of the Nazarene in La Junta in 1940. During World War II she worked for two years as Clerk-Typist in the personnel office at the La Junta Army Air Field. In 1946, she was employed by the Otero County Welfare Department as a stenographer and typist, working there 11 years. In April of 1958, she moved to Nampa, Idaho. In a short time she joined the Fairview Church of the Nazarene. She was employed by First Security Bank of Idaho, as secretary in the Timeway Installment Loans Department from June 1958 until her retirement in March 1973. Katherine married John C. Matzen in April of 1961 in Nampa, Idaho.Katherine is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 23, 2015 at 10:30 am at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. So, Nampa. Viewing will be prior to the service from 10-10:30 am. Katherine will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell.
