Mr. Julius Long, Jr., 75 of Lake City, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the hospital unexpectedly. He was born on October 15, 1940 in Jacksonville, Florida to Madelyne Murray Long and the late Julius Long, Sr. Mr. Long had made his home in Lake City since 1995 having moved here from Jacksonville, Florida. He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1968. He was awarded a National Defense Service Metal, Sharpshooter Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Metal. He then sold insurance with Independent Life. He and his wife owned and ran J & J Associates Inc. sales and service of Kirby Vacuums from 1993 to 1999. After that he retired. Mr. Long loved to joke and tease everyone he knew and met. He loved to hunt, fish, and box. He enjoyed weight lifting with his son. He managed a womens softball team for five years in Jacksonville. He loved his wife, his children, and his grandchildren.Survivors include his loving wife, Beth Long, Lake City; his children, Candy (Brady) Strickland, Jesup, GA, Jay (Bonnie) Long, Live Oak, FL, and Tracy (Kevin) Buckley, Lake City; his mother, Madelyne Long, Lake City; his sister, Jackie (Walter) Wood, Lake City; his brother Clarence Long, Lake City; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.Funeral services for Mr. Long will be conducted at 2:00 PM, on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Parkview Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Tatem officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family and friends will be from 5:00pm-7:00pm, Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Mr. Longs honor to the Parkview Baptist Church Building Fund, 268 NW Lake Jeffery Rd, Lake City, FL 32055.
