Joyce Carol Oates Obituary

Jun 16, 1938 - May 28, 2020

This obituary is administered by:

Joyce was loved very dearly by her friends, family, and fans. Her fans loved her ability to write dark stories without seeming cliche because of her illness. When she was first diagnosed with Anosognosia, she was very scared. She then soon realized that with her inability to know how her mental state was, she could write essentially anything and everything she wanted to without doing any damage to her mental health. This allowed her to write many deep and dark stories such as Why Don't You Come Live With Me It's Time where she was very sleep deprived and possibly suffering from insomnia. May she Rest In Peace eternally.

“The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four people is suffering from a mental illness. Look at your 3 best friends. If they're ok, then it's you.”

― Rita Mae Brown
