Dr. Joseph Villard, Jr.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Dr. Joseph Villard, Jr. at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral with Rev. Chad Partain officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., with a recitation of the Holy Rosary in the Kramer Chapel at 10:00 a.m.Dr. Joseph Villard, Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, August 20, 2017, at his home in Boyce, at the age of 89. He was born on July 27, 1928, in Alexandria to Joseph Villard and Rosalia Schillage Villard. He was a graduate of Bolton High School class of 1945 and was the elected class president and treasurer for all 4 years. After high school, he was employed by Rapides Bank and Trust Company and graduated from the Banking School of the South. During the
Korean War, Joseph enlisted in the Navy and served our country first on the USS Mountrail and then on the USS Colonial. Upon his return from Korea, he attended and graduated from
Tulane University School of Medicine, class of 1963, where he studied Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery. Dr. Joseph Villard was Chief of Residents at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and worked directly under his mentor, Dr. John Ochsner. When he returned to Alexandria, he opened a very successful Ear, Nose and Throat practice. Dr. Villard also started the Lee and Texas Walk-In Clinic, one of the first of its kind, where he treated thousands of patients. He gave his time freely and ran an Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic on England Air Force Base, where he treated hundreds of servicemen and their families. Dr. Villard also ran a clinic at the Veterans Hospital in Pineville, attending to veterans for many years. Dr. Villard had a true entrepreneurial spirit and an excellent recall for dates and events throughout his entire life and was the family historian. He was truly a family man. To quote Dr. Charles Wills, Audiologist, "his kids were always his most important investment". He is preceded in death by his lovely wife of 10 years, Rosalyn Bennett Villard, who passed away on August 16, 2017; his parents; his brothers Rosario "Ross", Sam, Nick, Michael, Angelo "Archie", Louis and Leroy; his sister Lucille Horton; nephew Layne Villard, his niece Charlotte Villard. Those left to cherish his memory include his children Rosalia Villard Lee (Joel) of Diamondhead, MS, Joseph William Villard, M.D. of Seattle, WA, Douglas Rosario Villard, M.D. (Jackie) of Alexandria, VA, and Michael Patrick Villard (Julie) of Eagle River, AK; his grandchildren Isabella Lee, Timothy Michael Lee, Victoria Josephine Villard, and Charles Brooks Villard; his sister Loretta Villard Crouch; and the mother of his children Kerry Elizabeth Douglas. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews Alice Faye Villard Lightfoot, Michael Villard, Jr., Mary Beth Norman, Lori Villar Timmer, Louis "Tony" Villard, Jody Horton, Carroll Villard, Vick Horton, Steve Horton, Joyce Horton Wadell, Linda Villard Supple, Diane "Dee Dee" Villard Schmolke, James "Jim" Villard, Debra Villard Barron, Marty Villard, Paul Villard, Rosemary Crouch Walton, and Cindy Crouch Block. Dr. Villard's family is forever grateful to his wife's family, Mr. and Mrs. David and Dinah Breezley of Boyce, for their unconditional love and care of him. Also the family would like to acknowledge an endeared special family friend, Mrs. Dora DeFils of Alexandria, for the constant unending love and support for over 40 years.
