Joseph Lee Higgins1934-2017Joseph Lee Higgins, 82, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017. He was born on March 2, 1934 in Bloomington, Indiana.After graduating from Bloomington High School, he enlisted in the
army and was stationed in Aschaffenburg, Germany for 3 years. Joe was a basketball player for the army during his service and received a basketball scholarship at
University of Texas, Austin. He graduated from University of Texas at Austin with a Business degree and upon graduating, he and his beloved wife, June, moved to Houston. He retired from BJ Services.Joe was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Houston. He was fond of spending time with his children and grandchildren. During his life, he enjoyed fishing and camping with his wife, June and their children, as well as spending summer vacations with family. He enjoyed dancing with June.He is preceded in death by his wife, June, his mother, Rowena, his father, Oman, his brothers, John Higgins and Steve Higgins and his sister, Janet Narwold.His is survived by his children, Kim Austin and her husband, Larry, Dr. Mark Higgins, and his wife, Dr. Terri Tomlin, Brad Higgins, Pam Richardson and her husband, Brian. His is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Ashley Vanar and husband Brad, Danny and Ian Ramirez, Maddie Austin, Katie and Sarah Higgins, Emily, Chris and Blake Higgins and Sam Richardson; 2 great grandchildren, Bailey and Mason Vanar; sisters Joyce Gillespie (Herman) and Meredith Stevens (Phil), brothers Jerry Higgins (Janet), Jack Higgins, Larry Higgins (Christa) ; sister(s)-in-law Elaine Higgins, Sandy Higgins, Nancy Spain and Judy Burk; brother(s)-in-law Jay Narwold, David Burk and Robert Spain and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Veterans Funeral Services, 10567 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038 at 9:30am. A chapel service will be held at 10:30 to be followed by Military Honors at Houston National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
