De La Cruz, known to friends as "Joe" and "Coach," passed away on October 4, 2017, at the age of 52 years, after a long battle with cancer. Joe was born on January 2, 1965, in Sanger, CA, to Jose Luis De La Cruz Sr. and Delia Longoria. He grew up in Sanger, CA and graduated from Sanger High School.  In 1992, he married Irma Torres, in Sanger, CA.  In the same year, he moved to Salinas, CA, to pursue a new career. In 1992, he began his law enforcement career with Monterey County Sheriff's Department.  After nine years, he moved to San Jose Police Department.  He served in law enforcement from 1992-2013. Joe is survived by his wife of 25 years, Irma De La Cruz, daughter Victoria De La Cruz, mother Delia Torres, father Jose Luis De La Cruz Sr., sisters Nelda Gonzales, Patty Torres, Mayra Ramirez, brother George De La Cruz.  Joe will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews and loving friends. Joe was surrounded by thoughtful and loving friends and family who provided him with the care and compassion he deserved. A Celebration of Joe's life will be held at 12 noon, on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Alta Vista Mortuary, 41 E Alisal St, Salinas, CA, with Chaplain Jim Becknall officiating. Arrangements by Alta Vista Mortuary, 41 East Alisal Street; (831)424-9700Online condolences: www.altavistamortuary.com
