Johnny I. Montoya, a resident of Ribera, completed his earthly journey on Oct. 1, 2014, and is now away from the body and at home with the Lord. (2 Corinthian 5:8) He was born on July 9, 1943, to Bonifacio and Deluvina Montoya of El Ancon, N.M. He was a steadfast Christian and nothing gave him more joy than serving Jesus Christ and spreading His love and message of salvation. He was a hard worker.He was a proud veteran, a carpenter, a uranium miner, a cemetery caretaker, a foster parent and a friend to many.He loved the outdoors (hunting and fishing), and enjoyed music.He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Agnes Montoya; his parents, Bonifacio and Deluvina Montoya; father- and mother-in-law, Antonio and Dominica Chavez; brother, Bonifacio Montoya Jr.; sister, Lucinda Montoya; brothers-in-law, Pedro Cobos, Miguel Chavez and Baudilio Chavez; sisters-in-law, Betty Chavez and Rosabelle Chavez and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.Johnny is survived by his children, Loretta Montoya-Lemons and husband, Darrell, John Montoya and wife, Bridget, Denise Archuleta and husband, Charlie, Frank Montoya and companion, Elena; sister, Timi Miranda and husband, Al, Maryann Vigil and husband Joe, Helen Rodriguez and husband, Ernest, and Vangie Cobos; grandchildren, Kyana, Annabell, Cristian, Amara, Olivia, RaeAnn and Frances. Also surviving him are numerous foster children, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and numerous children who called him grandpa.Funeral services for Johnny will be held at the Las Vegas Christian Center, located at 2501 Ridgerunner Road in Las Vegas.A Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. today (Friday) and funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Rubi officiating. A private burial service will be held at a later date. Serving as pallbearers are: Kenny Alderete, Pat Gonzales, Navor Garcia, Joe Gallegos, George Martinez and Pastor Dan Gutierrez.
