Johnnie Slay Sr, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on November 5, 2024, at the age of 79 in Denham Springs, Louisiana.

Born on October 26, 1945, to Darrie Lee Slay and Lorene Evelyn Slay, Johnnie grew up surrounded by love and the values that would shape him into the man he became. In 1993, he married the love of his life, Ava Slay.

Johnnie was a proud veteran who served in the United States Air Force, where he honed his skills and developed a love for aviation. In his free time, he enjoyed watching Nascar races and was a History Buff, always eager to learn more about the world around him.

He is survived by his sisters, Marie Corbin (spouse Jeff), Darlene Slay, Brother-in-Laws AJ Burch, &Terry Russell, children Johnnie Slay Jr (spouse Sarah) Kenneth Allen Slay "Buck", Laurie Slay, Darrie Ernest Slay Sr (Fiance' Amanda), Trey Hardesty (spouse Jessica), and Sara Hardesty, as well as his 21 beloved Grandchildren, & 34 Great Grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Darrie Lee & Lorene Evelyn Slay, Daughter Laurie Slay, Sisters Vonville Burch & Carolyn Kohler, Great Grandson Johnny Matthews, Step-Son Joshua Brunner, Nephew Joshua O'Hearn, Sister-in-Law Kathy Russell, Niece Melissa Mooney.


Johnnie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
