John R. Foulks Sr., 89, son of the late Lee Roy and Carrie Alice Friedline Foulks, passed away at home in Hospice Care on November 22, 2016.He was born on August 25, 1927 in the village of Port Barnett (Brookville).John attended Port Barnett Elementary School and Brookville High School.At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy.After Boot Camp at Sampson, New York, he boarded the Aircraft Carrier, USS Solomons CVE 67 and became a qualified Helmsman. The Solomons was severely damaged in a storm near Cape Hatteras in 1946 and taken out of service.He then boarded the Destroyer USS Osbourn DD 846, and spent time in the Pacific at the end of World War II. John was credited with four years of service and was discharged on his 21st birthday as Quartermaster 3. His service in the Navy was very important to him and he was proud to have been a Helmsman.On October 23, 1955 he married Jean Uncapher at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church near Knox. John was the Meat Department manager at the Clarion Riverside Market for many years.He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.John was a longtime member of the New Rehoboth Greenville Presbyterian Church.He was the last surviving member of his family, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four sisters, and a niece.In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by one son, John R. Foulks, Jr. of Shippenville, one daughter, Sherry J. Foulks of Corsica, and his beloved cat, Rusty.Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion followed by services at the Funeral Home at 3 p.m with the Rev.
