John Haynes BarnhartHOOVER, AL: John Haynes Barnhart, 75, of Hoover, AL, passed away Saturday evening, September 16, 2017. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as Full Colonel with 30 years of military service including active duty and reserves.John was born on February 14, 1942 in Chillicothe, OH. For much of his childhood, he was active in Boy Scouts. He graduated in 1960 from Chillicothe High School and earned his undergraduate degree at Miami University of Ohio, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and active in Air Force ROTC. After Miami of Ohio, he earned two Master degrees from the University of Southern California.From 1970-1985, John worked at Ross Labs, a division of Abbott Labs. He was a member of many military and civilian charitable organizations. While living in Seacrest Beach, FL with his wife Helen, he volunteered at the Sacred Heart Hospital.In 2015, John and Helen moved to the Birmingham, AL area to live closer to their daughters and grandchildren. While residing at Danberry at Inverness, he was very involved in many activities, serving as president of the Residents Advisory Committee and as current events group leader.John was predeceased by his parents, Robert Barnhart and Elizabeth Evans Barnhart, and one brother, Robert Allen Barnhart Jr.Survivors include John's wife, Helen J. Barnhart; two daughters, Rebecca B. Purvis (Jamie) and Sarah B. McGuire (Chris); three grandchildren, Makenzie McGuire (17), Evan McGuire (15), and John Alan McGuire (10); two brothers, James Barnhart (Diane) and Peter Barnhart (Judy); and one sister, Barbara Wissler.The family will greet friends from 12-1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Montevallo, AL, immediately followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the church. Father Ray Dunmyer will officiate. Also on Tuesday, the gravesite committal service and burial will be at 2:45 p.m. at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo.The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to
