John F. Jones, 64, died Sunday, October 8th at his home in Lee.He was born on August 10, 1953, in Chicago, IL, the son of James and Katherine Howell Jones. John moved to Lee in 1976 opening an Arco Service Franchise on Housatonic Street. In 1985 he bought the business and created Lee Texaco which he then changed to JFJ Sales and Service and ran until his retirement in 2013.He was a former member of the Lee Ambulance Squad and an umpire for Lee youth softball and baseball leagues. John enjoyed fishing but his greatest joy was family vacations with Beth and Bill Tierney whether to Myrtle Beach, cruising the Caribbean or his weekly trips to Lake George in the summer.John is survived by three brothers: James Jones of Evergreen, CO, David Jones of Oakland, CA and Stephen Jones of Merom, IN; one sister: Mary Devine of Riverdale Bronx, NY; and his longtime friend: William Tierney of Lee.John will always be remembered as a generous employer, a fiercely loyal friend and a productive and supportive member of his community, who will be sorely missed by all.
SERVICES:
