John BennettJohn Bennett, 76, died on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at his home in Lafayette, IN, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 13, 1940 in Clinton, Indiana to the late Daniel and Helen Marie (Jackman) Bennett. John married his late wife, Christine M. (Rardon) Bennett on May 16, 1964. She preceded him in death on November 14, 2012.He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed working in his yard and watching the Colts. He began his career as a master carpenter in the early 70's, owning John E. Bennett Builders, later he worked for John Downey Builders; and continued after retirement to specialize in custom trim work. Surviving John are two daughters: Robin M. Virtue and Regina M. Bennett, both of Lafayette, IN. His brother, Ray (Mary) Bennett, of Kerrville, TX, also survives him. John is also survived by four grandchildren: Brian Virtue, Courtney Fulton (husband: Justin), Emily Virtue-Gamblin, and Amanda Bennett-Cole (husband: Arthur). Two great grandchildren, Landen and Kailey Fulton, also survive him. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife. A memorial service will take place at 7 pm, Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Hippensteel Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Dodson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
