John A. Spurgeon, age 79, of DeMotte, IN passed away on, June 16, 2015, at the Rensselaer Care Center.  John was born on March 1, 1936 in Rensselaer, IN, the son of John M. and Ida (Terpstra) Spurgeon. John was a graduate of the DeMotte High School, class of 1954.  On June 19, 1954, in DeMotte, IN, John married the love of his life, Joan K. (DeYoung) and she survives.  John was a self employed cement finisher.  He was a member of the DeMotte United Methodist Church and Cement Masons Union #406.  John enjoyed golfing and traveling.John leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Joan;  children, Jeffrey (Rebecca) Spurgeon of DeMotte, IN, John (Diane) Spurgeon of Wheatfield, IN, Jason (Mary) Spurgeon of DeMotte, IN and Janine Spurgeon of Anderson, IN; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles (Jan) Spurgeon of Rensselaer, IN and Jerry Joe (Kay) Spurgeon of DeMotte, IN.Preceded in death, 1 daughter, Julie Ann Osburn, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.Friends may call on Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM at the Jackson Funeral Service in DeMotte.  A Funeral Service will be held at the First Reformed Church in DeMotte, on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 10:30 AM with Pastor John Hill officiating.  Interment will be held at the Holland Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the DeMotte United Methodist Church.
