Joan Curcio was born September 28th, 1946 in Darby Township, PA and was the third child of six siblings (John, Barbara, Steven, Michael, and Rosemary) of her parents Marion and John Lieb. She was raised in a loving family in Upper Darby. She attended school at St. Laurence Catholic School, Pendergrass Catholic High School, and finally college at West Chester State College where she received a certificate in realty. In summer of 1970, she met Ken Curcio while dining at Hanns restaurant with her sister Barbara where unexpected love bloomed between the two. After a long romance they married in St. Laurence Catholic Church in Upper Darby in 1972.
They moved into a small house on Fleming St. in Upper Darby. In 1974, after two years of marriage, July 5th their first child Kenny Jr was born. She worked as a realtor for some time while raising Ken Jr. After finding out she was unable to conceive any more children. Joan and Ken decided to adopt 3 more children (Theresa, Joseph, and Marianna). All of their children were a blessing and completed the family. Joan and Ken’s loving heart also went on to foster three more children, for a time. Joan was a stay at home mother, artist, teacher, and devote catholic of the Franciscan first order.
As her mother, Marion, grew older Joan took care of her until her death in 1993 with great sadness. She spent hours making hundreds of rosaries for America Needs Fatima’s crusade and traveling for her passion in her religious beliefs. She continued to raise her children until Ken’s retirement in 2011. Where they then decided to move to Florida to be closer to their grandchildren, son Ken Jr ,daughter-in-law April, and son Joseph. Joan was blessed with four beautiful grandchildren: Katelyn, Anthony, Christina, and Jasmin.
After years of struggle with liver issues, at the age of 71, Joan was called to heaven at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa on June 6th with the love of her family surrounding her. She will be deeply missed for her giving soul and loving kind heart, by all that knew her.
She will be deeply missed by siblings John, Steven, Michael, and Rosemary. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 yrs Ken Curcio Sr.; children: Ken Jr, Theresa, Joseph, and Marianna; grandchildren: Katelyn, Anthony, Christina, and Jasmin; daughter in law April, and son in law Chris Howell.
