Jerry Lee McGaughApril 3, 1934 - July 11, 2014Jerry Lee McGaugh passed away in his home in Gulf Breeze, Florida on July 11th, 2014 surrounded by his friends, family and his beloved cat dotty. He was 80 years old. Jerry was born on April 3rd, 1934 to Vernon and Frances McGaugh in Pocatello, Idaho. Jerry and his sister Jackie helped their father build their home at 574 West Maple Street in Pocatello, Idaho. When Jerry was not helping his father he enjoyed the outdoors as a youth fishing in the Snake River and hunting in the Idaho wilderness. He was an accomplished athlete and had the opportunity to pitch for Idaho State as a freshman. Jerry accomplished his dream of acceptance to the United States Naval Academy in 1954. He loved his 9th Company shipmates and graduated from the Naval Academy with an engineering degree in 1957. He married Darlene Forster Brown that year and took a job with Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee, WI where their 3 boys; Steven, Alan and David where born. In 1964, Jerry moved his family to Mt Vernon Ohio where his daughter, Jennifer, was born. In 1968 Jerry accepted a job with Dresser Industries in Houston, TX and moved his family to Sandalwood Lakes. Sandalwood was home for the McGaugh family. Jerry was a kind, generous, devout Christian man who enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and pets. His joyful spirit even helped him lead his own father to Christ. He had a positive impact in his community teaching Sunday school and developing as well as coaching elementary soccer leagues in the Houston area in the early to mid 1970's. Jerry spent the his later years in life playing tennis and attending the Second Baptist Church until he moved to Pensacola, Florida in 2005 to be with his family. Jerry was a loving father who taught his children how to fish, hunt and play the sports of baseball and soccer. He was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren: Angela, Kayleigh, Scott, Sophia, Allison and Grace. Jerry always spoke fondly of his childhood friends and family from Idaho, his shipmates from the Naval Academy, his adult friends from Houston and Pensacola, and his Christian friends from churches nationwide. Jerry loved people. Jerry was an affectionate, generous, loving and giving father who always made time for his family and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at 1227 Pearson Rd, Milton, Florida 32583 on Aug 9th @ 6pm to honor and celebrate Jerry's life.
