Jennifer Downing Edwards, age 75, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, from cancer-related complications.

Born on September 14, 1950, in Highland Park, Michigan, Jennifer was the daughter of Johnnie Ray and Darla Dean Edwards. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved aunt and uncle, Pat and Joe Green; her sister, Denisa Schmid; and her brother, Barry Edwards.

Jennifer is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Kathryn Shah, and son-in-law, Neal Shah; her treasured grandchildren, Penelope ("Pia") and Charlie ("Char Char") Shah; her sister, Diana Britt; her nieces, nephews, extended family, and the many friends whose lives she touched through her kindness, humor, and generosity.

Jennifer built a distinguished career as a Certified Public Accountant, beginning in tax at Arthur Andersen before serving as an accountant at Integrated Health Associates (IHA) and later as an internal auditor for Ford Motor Company. She earned both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from Eastern Michigan University, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Retirement marked one of the most fulfilling chapters of Jennifer's life. She devoted countless hours to serving others as a docent at the University of Michigan Museum of Art, treasurer of the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop, an usher at Hill Auditorium, and a dedicated volunteer with Dawn Farm, where she faithfully supported individuals in recovery. Jennifer believed deeply in the value of service and often said that helping others gave her an unmatched sense of purpose and fulfillment.

Jennifer embraced life with enthusiasm and unmistakable style. She loved long conversations with friends, jazz concerts, art museums, and the beauty of the Arts and Crafts Movement and Georgia O'Keeffe's work. She found joy in caring for her yard and was known for her vibrant monochromatic outfits, colorful accessories, and unmistakable sense of fashion.

Those who knew Jennifer will remember her as witty, welcoming, compassionate, and full of personality. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel seen, valued, and at ease. Her colorful expressions, infectious laughter, and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

After her cancer diagnosis in 2024, Jennifer relocated to Cary, North Carolina, to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She treasured the time they spent together and found great happiness building new friendships through the Cary Newcomers Club while remaining deeply connected to the Ann Arbor community she loved.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dawn Farm or the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop in Jennifer's honor.

A Celebration of Jennifer's Life will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather in remembrance, share stories, and celebrate the extraordinary life of a woman whose kindness, humor, and generosity left a lasting mark on everyone she met.

Jennifer's legacy of love, service, and compassion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
