Jean BarraROANOKE - Ila Jean Barra, 90, of Roanoke, IL, passed away at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Home.She was born on July 28, 1926, in Douglas, IL, a daughter of Arthur and Marjorie Murphy Moore. She married Joseph Barra on June 25, 1955, in Edwardsville, IL. He passed away on March 13, 2008.Survivors include three nieces, Mary (Michael) Scheirer of Metamora, Diana (Gary) Smith of Drake, CO, and Lori (David) Biggs of Princeton, IL; one aunt, Bernita Murphy of Farmington, IL; seven great-nieces and nephews; three great-great-nephews; and several cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents and one niece, Kathy Traxel.Jean worked at Caterpillar for several years before moving on to Foster Jacobs, where she worked until her retirement.She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Roanoke, where she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society. Jean was well-known for her lemon meringue pies at the spaghetti suppers. She was also an excellent seamstress.Jean and Joe loved to go fishing together and enjoyed traveling to Minnesota every year. She was a die-hard Cubs fan and is watching down on the World Series with great joy from the best seats in the house. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Roanoke. Fr. Eugene Radosevich will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Roanoke Township Cemetery. Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Home.Jean's family would like to thank the staff of the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Home for the excellent and loving care extended to her.
