This obituary is administered by:
Janice Farneti Hannon died on Monday, October 31, 2016, after an extended illness. She was born on March 29, 1938, to Eugene Richard and Winifred Allen Farneti in Peru, Illinois. She is survived by her husband of nearly twenty-five years, Henry R. Hannon; her children, Jennifer G. Hardeman and husband Mitchell; Gregory C. Griffeth and wife Fiona; her grandchildren, Ansley Hardeman, Sydney Grace Hardeman, Margaret Griffeth, and Lindsay Griffeth; her beloved sister, Sharon F. Spadafino; aunts, Lorene Goetz and Gladys Pryde; many nieces and nephews; and her many, many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Leonard Spadafino. Jan graduated from Athens High School and earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Elementary Education from the University of Georgia. She taught hundreds of children during her many years in Clarke County elementary schools, and she considered this one of her greatest achievements. She was beloved by her former students, and she, in turn, was always delighted to see them around town as they grew up. After her retirement, Jan enjoyed traveling with her husband, Hap, and took great pleasure in the friends they made on their trips throughout the US and around the world. Jan was a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church. She was constantly active in community activities, including the Athens Junior League, and volunteered for many years at Athens Regional Hospital. A passionate gardener, she was a member and past President of the Rose and Dahlia Garden Club. She was an avid tennis player and tremendously enjoyed watching her granddaughters' development in the sport. Services will be held at St. Stephens Anglican Church, 800 Timothy Road, Athens, on Friday, November 4, 2016, at 2 PM. Burial to follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or donations in Jan's memory may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation of America (www.alzfdn.org). Lord and Stephens, East is in charge of arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com 1938 - 2016
