Jane SuttonWaynesville - On Thursday, April 13, 2017, our community was deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Jane Lewis Sutton, age 64. Jane was visiting her daughter, Ashley and her family in Raleigh when her untimely passing occurred.Jane was a native of Guilford County, born on June 1, 1952, and was the only child of her late parents, Clifford Whitfield and Jane Bristol Lewis. She was a graduate of High Point Central High School and attended Meredith College graduating with a B.S. degree in Sociology. In college while on a blind date, she met Gregg Sutton who eventually became her husband. Jane was a former social worker with St. Joseph Hospital. She then accepted a position in the pre-school program at First United Methodist Church. This began a 27 year career where she flourished as a very beloved pre-school teacher. Her tenure at First Methodist pre-school translated to her being a teacher to 2nd and 3rd generations of many families. Jane was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville and was in charge of First Grade Music Makers and also served as a bible mentor. She had also been active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and enjoyed gardening, sewing and smocking. Jane was awarded the Silver Beaver honor for her volunteer commitment to the Boy Scouts. She will be remembered most for her devotion and love for her family. Jane was most happy and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. Since Jane's passing a new grandson was born this past Tuesday.Jane is survived by her husband of 42 years, William Gregg Sutton; daughter, Ashley Sutton Ritcher, and her husband, John, of Raleigh; son, Nathan Gregory Sutton, and his wife, Erin, of Canton; mother-in-law, Evelyn McCracken Sutton, of Lake Junaluska; sister-in-law, Cindy Williams, and her husband, Howard, of Greensboro; brother-in-law, Mark Sutton, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; grandchildren, James Ritcher, Sophia Ritcher, Jack Ritcher, Justice Sutton and Tucker Sutton.A service celebrating Jane's life will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Sanford L. Giles and Reverend Kathleen M. Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 3:30 until 5:30 p.m. prior to the service. A private family committal service will be held Saturday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Pre-School Program, P.O.
