XENIA - Jane Pavey Stephan, age 100, passed away Monday, October 13, 2015. She was born on December 4, 1914 in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Daniel M. and Anna M. Pavey. Mrs. Stephan attended school in Columbus. She was graduated from The Ohio State University with Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education. She then became a teacher at the Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Orphans Home in Xenia. In August 1940, she and Sylvester L. "Pete" Stephan, who also taught at the Home, were married in Collier Chapel on the Home campus. Mrs. Stephan taught at the Home during the three years her husband fought with the Marine Corps in the South Pacific. Following the war, Colonel Stephan remained in the service and the Stephan family resided in various locations. In 1963, the family returned to the Home where Colonel Stephan served as superintendent for thirteen years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stephan was predeceased by her husband in 1999 after a marriage of fifty nine years. She is survived by a daughter, Marianne; a son, Peter and his wife, Ingrid; a grandson, Brian and his wife, Stephanie; and a granddaughter, Astrid and her husband, Ed Kapfhammer; great grandchildren: Gunnar and Gage Stephan; Ella, Ava and Trent Kapfhammer. She was a member of Faith Community Methodist Church and the Xenia Field and Flower Garden Club. Pastor Rick Tettau will officiate services to be observed privately by her family. She will be interred next to her husband in Woodland Cemetery in Xenia, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Xenia Education Endowment Fund, in her memory.
