JANE L. CHARLES, 90 FREEPORT - Jane L. Charles, 90, formerly of Freeport, died Thursday November 14, 2013, at Fair Oaks Nursing Center in South Beloit, IL. She was born on July 31, 1923, in Sublette, IL, the daughter of Charles and Bessie (Helms) Swanson. She married R.L. "Bud" Charles on September 10, 1941, in Palmyra, MO; he died on January 29, 2000. Jane and her husband farmed in the Mt. Carroll area, and also owned and operated Charles Radio Company for over forty years. She was a member of First Church of the Nazerene in which she was very active. Jane is survived by three sons, William (Alice) Charles of Eminence, MO, Tom (Nola) Charles and Lee (Corine) Charles, both of Mt. Carroll; four daughters, Linda (Fred) Kasten of Freeport, IL, Ann (Matt) Smith of Mt. Horeb, WI, Sue (Mike) Butcher of Jacksonville, IL, and Kathy (Larry) Albrecht of Pearl City, IL; her sister, Ruth Solberg of Centralia, WA; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport, with Rev. Brandon Bomar officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Burke-Tubbs. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. A memorial has been established in her memory.
