James Peagler, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2023, in his home in Glendale, Arizona, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 73 years old.
Born on May 1, 1950, in Birmingham, Alabama, James was the son of the late John Peagler and Mary Jones. After completing high school, he pursued a degree in engineering at the University of Alabama and graduated with honors in 1972.
James spent most of his career working in the aerospace industry, where he gained recognition for his passion, expertise, and ingenuity. He was instrumental in the development of several cutting-edge technologies that enhanced space exploration, including automated robotic systems, advanced propulsion systems, and advanced imaging systems. His contributions earned him numerous accolades and awards from his peers and industry experts alike, and he retired in 2015 as one of the most respected and accomplished engineers in the field.
James leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Patricia, his four children, Latoya, Quentin, Tashia, and Jacqueline, and his six grandchildren, Zai, Niya, Semaja, Brandon, Jayla, and Dasia. He cherished his family above all else and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who always put his family first. He was a man of unwavering integrity, kindness, and humor who touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
James was also a a passionate cook, and a talented musician who enjoyed playing the guitar and singing for his family and friends. He loved spending time outdoors, camping, fishing, and basketball, and he was a true patriot who always honored and respected his country.
James's family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to celebrate his life on Friday, June 23, at 11 am, at the Grace Lutheran Church, 5600 W. Palmaire Ave., Glendale, Arizona. Interment will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, Arizona.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association in James's memory.
James Peagler was a talented engineer, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a devoted friend, and a true patriot. His life was full of achievements, laughter, and joy, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
