James "Jim" Joseph Fitzsimon, 84, of Ormond Beach, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016. He was born on July 26, 1932 in New York to the late James and Helen Fitzsimon (Mullane). As a young man he served in the US Navy during the Korean War. Survivors include his daughter, Terri Czeczotka; his companion of 41 years, Jinx Montgomery; brothers, Kenneth and Chris Fitzsimon; sister, Karen Taylor; nieces, Lori Polson and Amanda Taylor; nephew, Joseph Saukas; great-nieces, Staci and Haven Holder and numerous loving relatives and friends. Jim's lifelong passion was music. Following the death of his mother, he spent ages 4-10 in a boarding school where a teacher introduced him to drums. She helped him build his first drum at age 5. His "high-hat" was a stripped down, discarded Christmas tree trunk. He was marching in professional bands by age 14. Following Masters degrees from Manhattan School of Music and Julliard, he began accompanying entertainment artists such as Hal Linden, Dick Haymes, Diahann Carroll and Leslie Uggams; performed in off-Broadway shows, toured the U.S. in the Broadway companies "Sugar" and "Al Jolson Tonight", etc.; conductor/drummer for industrial shows; percussionist for DuPont Chemical Corporation at NY World's Fair; house percussionist, Persian Room, Plaza Hotel NYC. Toured the U.S. with Les Elgart Orchestra and the Claude Thornhill Band. During his military service, he served as a musician and percussionist with the Bonne Homme Richard naval band abroad and stateside. Jim's other passion was being a true Yankees Fan. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 2:00-5:00PM in the chapel of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Rd. S. Flagler Beach. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 14, 11:00AM at St. Brendan Catholic Church, 1000 Ocean Shore Blvd., Ormond Beach.
