James H. FountainZANESVILLE: James H. Fountain, 88, of Zanesville, passed away at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the Beckett House in New Concord. He was born on April 18, 1927 in Muskingum County a son of the late Stanley and Rosetta Fountain. He was a 72 year member of the First Baptist Church where he served on several boards and committees, including the Board of Trustees, Head Usher, Finance Committee, Men's Fellowship, Treasurer of the Deacon's Board, and involvement with the certificate of incorporation. He worked for 41 years as a truck driver for Putnam Transfer, where he also played on the company softball team. He served his country in the
United States Navy. He was a member of the Zanesville Eagles, Springfield Lions Club, volunteered at the Senior Center and worked as a cashier at Nicol's Restaurant. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and golfing and sharing the accomplishment of his hole-in-one. He was a great caregiver to his family. He is survived by his wife of 29 years Violet June Shawger Fountain; four children Jamie German, Randy Fountain, Marty Fountain, and Tammy (Dan) Wiseman; eight step-children Jeff (Kathy) Shawger, Jim (Marge) Shawger, John (Bonnie) Shawger, Tom (Tara) Shawger, Mike (Kelly) Shawger, Susan Baltzer, Nancy (Jim) Arnold, and Molly (Bob) Haslam; 45 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law Margaret Fountain; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife Maxine Melvin Fountain; three brothers Bob, Bill, and Lester; four sisters Betty Sims, Annabelle Devolld, Emmajean Fountain, and Sondra Fountain; one grandson Aaron Baltzer; one daughter-in-law Rebecca Harrier Fountain. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday, September14, 2015 at WILLIAM THOMPSON & SON FUNERAL HOME 5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage and one hour prior to the service which will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. Rev. Joe Seese officiating. Burial will follow in Wesley Union Cemetery.
