James D. FreetageWEST LAFAYETTE: James D. Freetage, age 57, of West Lafayette, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Lafayette Pointe. Jim was born on December 20, 1959, to M. Reuben and Wilma (Weaver) Freetage. Jim graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1979 and worked as a Police Officer, worked at Ryder Trucking, AK Steel as a Security Guard, and worked for over 23 years at Kraft Foods. Jim hosted numerous county music parties in his back yard with his Mom and Dad, and Uncle Ma. He performed with the Country Mix Band at nursing homes and throughout the community for many years. Jim was a jokester and agitator with family and friends at work, he never knew a stranger; and was a very loving, caring, helpful person. He loved spoiling his "daughter" Harmony, the cat. Jim always made sure to feed his "Kids" the rabbits, in his backyard and loved to watch them play. He enjoyed planting flowers and tinkering outside the house. Jim is survived by his mother, Wilma Freetage of West Lafayette; his wife, Susie (Conrad) Freetage, whom he married February 14, 2015; two brothers, Rick Freetage of Tennessee and Kenny (Jessie) Freetage of West Lafayette; four step-sons, Josh Shumaker, of West Lafette, Jered Shumaker , Tyler Shumaker both of Coshocton, and Caleb Shumaker of Georgia; three grandchildren, Brayden, Tucker, and Audirana Shumaker; mother-in-law, Ann Bruere of Mount Vernon; aunt, June Green of West Lafayette, sisters-in-law, Sandy ( Jim) Witucky of Coshocton and Jan Conrad; brothers-in-law, Jim (Martha) Conrad of West Lafayette, Jeff (Judi) Conrad of Keene, Randy (Sandy) Conrad of Coshocton and Doug Conrad of Dresden; Nieces, Teresa and Rebecca; nephews, Mike, Jeff, J.W. and Gregg; great-nieces and nephews, Leah, Brittany, Amber, Dakota, Mike, and Jeff; and great-great-nephew, Ryder. Jim is preceded in death by his father, M. Reuben Freetage, father and mother-in-law, Richard M. Conrad and Wilma Conrad; and brother-in-law, Bob Conrad. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in the Chapel. Funeral service will be held following the calling hours at 11:00 am with Pastor Steve Young officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery.
