It is with deep sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of James Miller-Laney, born on January 28, 1986, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. James departed this world on July 2, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories. He was the beloved son of Jim Miller and Brenda Laney.

James cherished his role as a father and leaves behind six beautiful children who meant the world to him. Holly, Mercede, Isabelle, Maddison, Lincoln, and Natalie will forever hold their father's love close to their hearts. James was a devoted and caring father, always striving to provide the best for his children and ensuring their happiness and well-being.

James attended Notre Dame High School, where he enjoyed studying and pursuing his academic goals. His time there was marked by his dedication to learning and his genuine curiosity for the world around him. James's thirst for knowledge propelled him forward in his journey, always seeking to explore new avenues and broaden his horizons.

It is with heavy hearts that we must acknowledge that James's life was tragically cut short. He struggled with internal battles that proved to be insurmountable, and on July 2, 2023, James succumbed to the anguish he bore. The cause of his untimely departure was suicide.

Though grief may now consume us, we choose to remember James for the incredible person he was. His vibrant spirit, warm smile, and compassionate heart touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. James will forever be remembered as a beacon of light in the lives of his family, friends, and community.

In the face of this immense loss, we offer our deepest condolences to his family, particularly to Jim Miller and Brenda Laney, who have had to bear the unimaginable pain of losing a child.
