JAMES CAREY "JIM" THOMPSON James Carey "Jim" Thompson, 68, Richmond, Mo., passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at the North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City, Mo. Jim was born on July 22, 1948, in Peoria, IL, to Victor and Lila (Knapp) Thompson. He is survived by his wife and companion of 26 years, Kathleen D. (Bamman) Thompson. Additional survivors include son, Jeremy A. Thompson of Kansas City, MO; daughter and son-in-law, Jamie L. and Daniel Rowan of Richmond; son, Carey Jacob Thompson of Red Bud, IL; one sister, Vicki Thompson and her husband, Bruce Wilson of Kenilworth, IL; one brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Toni Thompson of Urbana, IL, and three grandchildren, Noah, Jack and Mars Rowan. Survivors also include numerous nieces and nephews close to his heart, a large extended family and countless friends. Jim was a United States
Army Veteran serving in Central Intelligence during the
Vietnam War in 1971 and 1972. He graduated from Cornell College in 1970 and received his Juris Doctorate from the UMKC School of Law in 1979. Following 24 years in the practice of law, Jim served as the Prosecuting Attorney for Ray County for two terms, later becoming the Associate Circuit Judge. Jim served in numerous community organizations and was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Richmond United Methodist Church. Special gratitude is expressed for the compassion of Dr. Jaswinder Singh, nurse Geri with Research Medical Center, Cherie with Pentec Health, and nurse Joan with Ray County Memorial Hospital Home Health. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at the Richmond United Methodist Church, with a visitation reception to follow. Military services will be provided by the Ray County Veterans. Inurnment will be in the Knapp Family Cemetery in Chester, IL, at a later date. Online condolences may be left on our website at
