James C. ButlerAVONDALE: James C. Butler, 85, of Avondale, died at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday September 3, 2014 at Genesis-Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born on April 4, 1929 in Zanesville the son of the late John E. and Mertie (Rayhill) Butler. He retired from Muskingum County Starlight Schools. Prior to that he had worked at Columbia Cement Co., Ratliffe Mobile Homes, and had set up voter registration for Muskingum County. James was a past District Governor of the Lions Club, a longtime member of the Limestone Valley Lions Club, Y-City Barbershop Chorus, Springfield Grange and later Timber Run Grange where he was a 7th Degree Grange member, and a lifelong member of Rolling Plains United Methodist Church. He was a United States
Army veteran. He was also an avid golfer. James is survived by one son, Greg (Connie) Butler; one daughter, Becky Jewell; five grandchildren: Heath (Erika) Butler, Abby (Andrew) Maddox, Ryan (Courtney) Butler, Nicholas Jewell and Katie Jewell; three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Butler; two brothers; and three sisters. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Fri. Sept. 5, 2014 at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home 5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday September 6, 2014. Rev. Paul Ashbrook officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Limestone Valley Lions Club or the Y-City Barbershop Chorus.
