He then put a combination of his joy of business, community and intrepidity together and started a few small businesses and worked at the local bank for many years, where his demeanor and smile brought joy to all.

Outside of work, Jim enjoyed volunteering and being a member of the Mizpah Shriner's, as well as writing and publishing several books. He enjoyed many hobbies including collections of various items, poetry and songwriting as well as enjoying family game nights. Jim was an intricate part of his local church, Adel United Methodist church, where he served with fidelity and dedication unmatched. He enjoyed using his voice singing in the choir and for his beliefs and convictions, proudly, and was unwavering in them, that strength and will is what he passed down through the 3 generations that came from him.
