It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James (Jim) Bryant Lawrence, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Jim peacefully passed away on February 5th, 2025, surrounded by his family, at the age of 84.
Born on March 4, 1940, in Adel, Georgia, Jim grew up with a passion and a deep love for his community. After graduating from high school, he attended Valdosta State University where he received a BS degree in business. Then following his graduation he went on to serve his country in the United States Army Reserves where he earned commendations and respect for his dedication and courage. He then put a combination of his joy of business, community and intrepidity together and started a few small businesses and worked at the local bank for many years, where his demeanor and smile brought joy to all.
Outside of work, Jim enjoyed volunteering and being a member of the Mizpah Shriner's, as well as writing and publishing several books. He enjoyed many hobbies including collections of various items, poetry and songwriting as well as enjoying family game nights. Jim was an intricate part of his local church, Adel United Methodist church, where he served with fidelity and dedication unmatched. He enjoyed using his voice singing in the choir and for his beliefs and convictions, proudly, and was unwavering in them, that strength and will is what he passed down through the 3 generations that came from him.
Jim is survived by his two children, Kelly Soper and Dawn Higgins (Roger); his five grandchildren, Brittany Ethridge (Chad), Taylor Adams (Dylan), Lauren Soper, Jesse Soper, and Hunter Ingram (Morgan); along with eight great-grandchildren: Samson, Emilee, Reed, Eleanor, Adaline, Sophie, Annabelle and Olivia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Nelda Lawrence, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Lawrence and Frederick L. "Freddie" Lawrence and his sister Linda Lawrence Cowart.
Jim will be remembered for his dedication to family, and his unwavering faith. He planted down roots that branched off into several generations of people that mirror His heart on their own. His spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
