Jack Raymond ReedJuly 2, 2017Jack Raymond Reed, 84, of Ft. Myers, died peacefully at his home on July 2nd, 2017. Jack was born on November 20, 1932 in Chicago, IL. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Lee Wimsatt, and sons Jason Raymond Reed and Brent Shively Reed. A journey through life took he and his wife to Belton, TX, Owensboro, KY and Syracuse, NY. Jack resided in Ft. Myers, FL for the past 20 years.Jack was the perfect example of a man and set the example for all to follow. His family was his greatest pride and joy. He was a veteran in the United States
Army. He and his wife started their married life in Texas, and that is where his oldest child was born. They then moved to Owensboro and proceeded to have four more children. While working full time at GE and raising five children, Jack went to night school and received his Bachelors Degree. All five of his children attended his graduation. All of his life he was a volunteer. He volunteered with the JC's, baseball coach and Red Cross, and the Moose. When he moved to Ft. Myers he continued to volunteer until his death. There was nothing he would not do for anyone. He was an inspiration to all that were blessed to know him. He is survived by his children, April Van Noy, Piper Rainbow (Tom) and Aaron Reed. Daughter-in-Law Paula Dodd and his faithful and loving companion, Shirley Ingram. Grandchildren, Summer Rogers, Star Parker, Seth Strehl, Melanie Awan, Shane Rainbow, Phoenix Rainbow, Jeremy Reed, Lisa Dodd and Kaleigh Reed. He is also survived by Great- Grandchildren, Alex Robertson, Hannah Awan, Cole Reed, Julia Reed, Jason Reed and Cameron Reed. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 6:00 PM at Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens 1589 Colonial Blvd., Ft. Myers, FL. A gathering at his home immediately after the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Jack be made to Hope Hospice.
