Irving John Sorensen1920 - 2014Irving Sorensen, 94, of Kenosha passed away peacefully on June 15, 2014, at UHS-Kenosha with his daughter by his side.Irving was born on Feb. 20, 1920, in Racine, the son of the late Morris and Anita Sorensen. He was educated in the schools of Racine. He was a member of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII, receiving the Silver Star, Purple Heart and numerous other medals of honor. He met his true love, Lorraine Jacobson, while on leave from the service. They were married on Nov. 20, 1944, and shared 70 years together. Irving was owner/operator of State Street Hardware in Racine for many years. He also worked as a butcher at A & P, snow plowed for the City of Kenosha, and worked at Ladish Tri-Clover as a superintendent for many years. His hobbies included spending time with family and friends.Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Sorensen of Kenosha; daughter, Janet Robbins of Kenosha; sons, David (Glenda) Sorensen of Texas, Scott (Terri) Sorensen of Kenosha; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Irving was preceded in death by his siblings, Alfred, Chris, Harry, James, June, and Norman.Funeral services were private. Burial Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, Wis.
