Ina Muriel Bacon (nee Kirk) April 1, 1923 - February 19, 2017It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our very dear mother Ina Bacon (nee Kirk). Mom passed away peacefully with family by her side in her room at Santa Maria Care Home in Regina on February 19, 2017. Mom was born on the family farm at Aberdeen April 1, 1923 to William and Davidina Kirk. Mom worked hard throughout her life to provide for her family including during WWII at a munitions factory. After the war, she moved to Saskatoon. She spent many years caring for her family and working at Crest Craft and Sears. In 1949, she married Vince Bacon and much to their joy, they had Kirk in 1951, Cheryl in 1953, and Ross in 1956. In 1993, Mom married Merle (Sam) Scribner from Des Moines Iowa. They lived at Emma Lake in the summer and Apache Junction, Arizona in the winter. Mom was a strong independent woman who believed there was no task she could not achieve. Mom learned to waterski at age 65. She faced adversity head on with grace and dignity. She taught us about strength in the face of adversity, and demonstrated unwavering hope. She maintained her positive attitude even when dementia affected her mind in the last few years. She maintained her sense of humour right up to the end, recently remembering Groucho Marx joke - "walk this way". She maintained a passion for golfing even after three hip replacements. Family was very important to Mom and her true joy was her 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Special Kirk family events and reunions were always a highlight, including several trips to Scotland to visit relatives. Mom was an elder in the Presbyterian church. Surviving Mom are daughter Cheryl & Brian Mackay (Regina) (Michael & Mel, Kevin & Kayla, & Janet & Justin), son Kirk & Heather Bacon (Calgary) (Kent & Angela, Paul & Jen, Rob & Fahn, Cara, & Jana & Andrew), 13 great-grandchildren, sister Eleanor Berg, sister-in-law Val Kirk, and many well- loved nieces and nephews. Predeceasing Mom were her parents William and Davidina Kirk, brothers Geordie, James, Ross, Frank, and Charlie, treasured son Ross, former husbands Vince Bacon & Sam Scribner, and her good friends Fernie Potts and Ruth Farrar. The family would like to give special thanks to the dedicated Santa Maria Care Home staff for their caring support of Mom especially over the last few months. In lieu of flowers, Mom would appreciate donations to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan. https://childrenshospitalsask.ca/contact/ Please join the family for a celebration of Mom's life on April 8, 2017 in Saskatoon.
