Decatur-Ida Mae Brooks went to be with the Lord on February 17, 2015. After an extended illness, she is present with the Lord! Ida entered this earthly life on August 12, 1943 in Vicksburg ms.Her parents were the late Chester Brooks, Jr. and Lenora Brooks. She was the oldest of three children. Her family was an integral part of First Baptist Church in vicksburg ms where she was baptized at an early age. At the time of her transition, Ida was a devoted and faithful member of St. Peter African Methodist Episcopal Church. She loved her church family and was actively involved. Her sense of duty to her church and work carried over into her community where she served devotedly. Service was an important aspect of her life. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and worked with the youth at Old Kings’ Orchard. Ida loved working with children, giving to others, gardening and fishing. A graduate of Tennessee State University, she started her 34 year career with Decatur Public Schools at Centennial Junior High in 1966. She also taught at Johns Hill before going in 1974 to Eisenhower High School. There she taught Physical Education and Health, coached girls’ basketball and boys’ soccer. Ida retired from District #61 in 2001. Even though she reached great heights in many aspects of her life, Ida considered her greatest contribution being the mother of her son, Craig. Ida’s inner being was that of a gentle soul with a kindred spirit. So we bid our beloved Ida, love, joy and eternal peace as she makes her new home in our Father’s house of many mansions. Ida’s sweet, sweet spirit shall live on in those left to cherish fond memories: her son, Craig, Decatur, brother, Raymond (Vivian) Brooks, aunt, Callie Brooks, Decatur, Ill sister, Diann Tisdale, ; niece, Stephanie Brooks, nephew, Keinon Brooks, goddaughter, Jatae West, Decatur, and a hosts of friends and relatives All of Vicksburg ms
