On June 30, 2024, the world lost a shining light with the passing of Hycine Natalie Thompson of Kingston Jamaica.

Born to Maude and Alfred Newbold on October 6th 1948, Hycine Nathalie was the sixth of nine living children. The family grew up on Fowler Street in the Kingston Hill communities where life-long friendships were made.

Hycine received her formal education at Easter Junior and Senior Schools. 

Hycin met and fell in love with Roland Thompson, a musician. They were joined in holy matrimony 1968. 

Joy came into Hycine life when she gave birth to her beautiful daughter Giselle followed by the births of her sons Gerrad, Glen and Graham. 

She showed interest in what was going on in their lives. If someone said that they were looking for a job, she would always tell them that something would soon ‘break’. When a job was secured, she would encourage.

Hycine employment began at the Kingston Theater, where she worked for many years before moving on to the Government’s Public Treasury. After earning a degree in accounting at the University of West Indies. She remained there until her retirement. Hycine was a dedicated and well-loved employee who took her job seriously. Everyone in the banks and other establishments in the downtown area

thanked Hycine for being friendly and helpful. 

Hycine was a long-standing, devoted and faithful member of May Pen Chapel. She was involved with the Soup Kitchen where she took on the task of bagging the soup (sometimes as many as 200 containers of soup). She has truly been missed since she stopped 

coming out a few months ago.  

Hycine was a member of the Usher’s Group since its inception. She dutifully served whenever it was her time to usher and when there were special events and services taking place. 

Tuesday evenings found her and Ruth Cash (her sidekick) some of the first persons to arrive for their weekly Bible Study

She was awarded in October 2022 for dedication to Bible Study. 

Hycine loved to travel and never missed a cruise with Bro Percy’s Travel Group. She thoroughly enjoyed those cruises. 

During fun events at church, once the music started, Hycine headed for the dance floor, scullin’ and dippin’ alone

with her favorite dancing partner, Deacon Elmina Bethel. Those two ladies knew how to ‘cut the rug’. 

Hycine loved her Minister, Rev Milton McDonald, his wife, Dr Linda McDonald. Even though she was not attending church, she wanted to know if Rev preached and if he was alright. 

Left to cherish the memories of Hycine Nathalie Thompson are: Her Husband of 56 years Roland Children: Daughter Giselle Pelletier; Son Gerrad Glen and Graham Thompson 

Grandchildren: Zantae and Savanna Thompson, Priscilla Thompson Sheldon Thompson, Jackira Thompson Ebony, Samuel Tru, Pellitier
