Collom, Homer Homer Collom didn't want an obituary, just to be put in the ground next to his oldest son without fanfare. Homer Bryan Collom, 84, of Show Low, died July 15, 2017. He was born on July 28, 1932, in Somerton, AZ, to Homer Bevel Collom and Lola Rachel (Richardson) Collom. A graduate of Yuma High School, Homer joined the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Randolph. Upon discharge, he crossed the country as a long-haul trucker, capping off his long career in the 1990s as an organizer for Teamsters Local 104. Retirement pursuits included drafting/building some of the most well-insulated garages and outbuildings in the White Mountains, his builds often dwarfing his client's homes. Homer was an old cowboy, woodworker, beekeeper, deep-sea fisherman and wearer of Western shirts and wingtips, rarely found without a thermos of coffee or a Bud in a koozie. You always knew where you stood with Homer. He loved his children (Michael, Larry, Jimmy, Tina, David and Kay), adored his grands and great grands, and cherished the many friendships he made along the way. A graveside remembrance is 9 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 2300 W. Van Buren St., Phoenix, AZ, 85009. In lieu of flowers or attendance, Homer would rather you did something you like. A slice of apple pie a la mode and a Western are also proper tributes.
