A life well lived

At just 18 years old, Hilda married Jack Stewart and soon after moved to Chicago, where she began building a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. She was a devoted employee at Nabisco for many years before retiring at the age of 55. Even after retirement, Hilda continued to serve others, spending time working with children—something that came naturally to her nurturing spirit. Eventually, she dedicated her life fully to what brought her the greatest joy: her grandchildren.

Hilda was a proud and loving grandmother to Dameera, Tyrese, Sade, and Rakariah, and a devoted mother to her daughter, Tomika. Her grandchildren were her heart, her purpose, and her greatest accomplishment. Everything she did was centered around loving, supporting, and protecting her family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved brothers Buddy and Shane. She leaves behind her loving sisters Mary, Skirt, and Yandor, and her brothers Green and Sugar Boy, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Hilda was an active and cherished member of Family Christian Center in Munster, Indiana, where her faith continued to grow and her presence was deeply loved. She was known for her warm smile, kind heart, contagious laughter, and unwavering strength. Hilda found joy in cooking, gardening, laughing, and bringing her family together. Her home was a place of comfort, love, and good food, always filled with warmth and welcoming arms.

A dedicated member of her community, Hilda was always willing to lend a helping hand. She lived her life with grace, resilience, and a deep love for others. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on through the lives she touched, the family she raised, and the love she poured into everyone around her.

Hilda’s memory will forever bring comfort, strength, and smiles to those who knew and loved her.

Rest in peace, dear Hilda. Your love lives on.
